Description :
Unit has a structure known as Fast Track.
Travelers are not permitted to triage.
There is a triage nurse available 24 / 7 with a second triage RN starting at 11 : 00 am.
The unit consists of 22 beds and an additional 8-10 hallway beds if required.
There are no exclusive psychiatric rooms, but there are several non-monitored rooms that function similarly.
Daily patient volume ranges from 170 to 210 patients.
Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NIHSS.
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4, depending on patient acuity.
The electronic medical record system utilized is Cerner.
ED uses Cerner First Net, and training will be provided for the traveler.
A charge nurse is present 24 / 7 and does not take on a patient assignment.
Nurse aides and paramedics work alongside EMT students on weekends.
During weekends, clinical techs assist with EKGs, lab work, vital signs, and wound care, with typically 3 available on weekends and only one during the week.
Security and patient sitters are available as needed.
Weekend shifts are required every other week, with holidays rotating with permanent staff.
Scrub color is navy blue.
Monitoring technology involves Phillips equipment; monitor techs print off strips and the RN must sign off on them.
Ventilator management is required.
Both physicians and mid-level providers are utilized in the ED, particularly in triage and fast track areas.
Laboratory draws are frequently performed by clinical techs, although nurses may need to assist if techs are limited.
There is no dedicated IV team available.
Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.
Shifts typically include various start times, with travelers often working variable shifts.
Travelers may need to float to another department.
Orientation generally consists of 2 floor-specific days.
Common diagnoses treated include psychiatric patients, strokes, sepsis, and STEMIs.
Travelers are not allowed to perform conscious sedation procedures unless they complete competency testing.
There is an emphasis on pain assessment and timely follow-up on medication administration.
There is a strong focus on protocols for managing stroke patients and sepsis.
Management will provide training on specific equipment and procedures.
The cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
Charting is performed using the Cerner system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
Trauma level information is applicable.
The work setting is acute care.
Shift notes indicate a 7pm to 7am schedule with floating required.
The required certifications include ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and COVID vaccination.
