Job Description

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery and equipment used in the production and manufacturing process. This role ensures the smooth and efficient operation of all equipment while minimizing downtime and ensuring safety standards are met.

Job Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair : Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems on a variety of industrial equipment. Perform routine maintenance and diagnostic tests using specialized tools and equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly. Install, maintain and upgrade machinery and systems to meet production demands. Design, modify and / or fabricate parts and fixtures. Disassemble obsolete equipment and hardware for disposal.
  • Preventive Maintenance : Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and enhance equipment longevity- (motors, pumps, blowers, compressors). Coordinate down times with Senior Mechanic. Maintenance Mechanic Manager and Production Managers for cleaning, maintenance, and repair. Document maintenance activities, including inspections and repairs, in maintenance logs.
  • Inventory / Hygiene and Resource Management : Monitor inventory levels of spare parts, tools and materials, order replacement parts as needed. Operate and maintain the company’s tool crib. Maintain cleanliness and order in the work areas.
  • Safety and Compliance : Adhere to and enforce workplace safety regulations and standards. Conduct safety inspections and ensure all equipment complies with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Facility Maintenance : Repair fixtures, lighting, electrical components, plumbing, flooring and partitions. Fabricate cabinets, tables, racks, jigs, and other equipment for company use.
  • Other duties : Make continuous improvement in the execution of all tasks.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. (Bilingual English / Spanish a plus).
  • Proficient math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and all units of measure).
  • Effective planning and organizing skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge applicable to the job (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, e-mail), as well as proficiency in the use of in-house programs and applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple duties and assignments effectively and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of production methods, systems, and continuous-improvement processes.
  • Ability to adapt effectively to workplace changes and new job duties / responsibilities.
  • Collaborative and the ability to work individually when necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to influence team-members in safety work practices.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job (manual dexterity, standing requirements, etc).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED Certificate; and
  • 2+ years’ experience as a mechanic or similar work experience; or
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that will provide the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully perform the job.

    • Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • Required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during the course of work shift.
  • Required to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, in the performance of this role.
  • Required the use of hands, speech and hearing, and use of feet to operate machinery / equipment ; Agility to operate and frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Lifting requirements : 25-35 lbs.; and the ability to move / push up to 25 lbs.
  • The noise level in this work environment may be moderate to high.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions.
  • PPE requirements : Regular use of safety glasses, standard ear plugs, masks, safety shoes, and gloves.
