Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.
About the role
Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, the Childcare / Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of children 3 to 5 years of age. The teacher is responsible forencouraging the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of the children in the Early Childhood Development Center and will teach and supervise children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination. The Childcare Preschool Teacher is also responsible for preparing children for kindergarten by easing them into organized education, by teaching them important elements that they will encounter as part of their preschool to kindergarten transition. This position is also responsible for supervising children at all times within the required licensed student / teacher ratios and must work collaboratively with co-teachers.
