Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Metrology Inspector to perform advanced inspections of aerospace hardware. This role involves hands-on work in receiving, in-process, and final inspection of components, including first article inspection and process verification. The ideal candidate is detail-focused, independent, and well-versed in GD&T, inspection equipment, and aerospace quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections on received materials, in-process components, and finished parts using mechanical and electronic measuring tools such as Romer Arm (Portable CMM), Caliper Gauges, Micrometers and other precision inspection tools
- Create inspection records in line with AS9102 requirements
- Verify coatings, finishes, and special processes against drawings and specifications
- Work closely with machinists and production teams to assess workmanship and identify quality issues
- Ensure calibrated gauges and tools are in compliance before use
- Identify and quarantine nonconforming material per company procedures
- Maintain 5S and follow all safety, health, and environmental protocols
- Support cross-functional operations and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
Technical Expertise – Proficient in using precision inspection equipment such as Romer Arm, CMMs, height gages, micrometers, and calipers. Strong working knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and AS9102 first article inspection reporting. Familiarity with ERP / MES systems (JobBOSS, or equivalent) and MS Excel for data entry and inspection record management.Inspection Experience – 3+ years performing receiving, in-process, and final inspections in an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment. Familiar with AS9102 First Article Inspection reporting.Collaboration & Communication – Proven ability to work independently on 2nd shift while collaborating effectively with machinists, engineers, and production teams. Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting inspection results, documenting nonconformances, and supporting cross-functional investigations.Regulatory Compliance – Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards. Familiarity with ITAR requirements, calibration control, and aerospace industry specifications for inspection and traceability.Problem Solving & Analysis – Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify workmanship issues, troubleshoot nonconformances, and recommend corrective actions. Ability to maintain accuracy and detail in a fast-paced environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.Preferred Qualifications
Thermal Protection Materials – Minimum 3+ years’ Experience inspecting and verifying thermal protection systems, ablative materials, cork, and heat shield components used in aerospace applications.ERP / MES Proficiency – Experience using JobBOSS, or similar systems for inspection record entry and traceability. Comfortable with MS Excel for inspection logs and reporting.Coatings & Finishes – Hands-on knowledge of thermal barrier coatings, high-temperature paints, anodize, plating, and other protective finishes. Ability to verify thickness, adhesion, and surface quality against specifications.Metrology in Harsh Environments – Experience using inspection tools on non-traditional geometries and porous or composite thermal protection materials.Continuous Improvement – Ability to recommend inspection process improvements for high-temperature or non-metallic aerospace hardware, aligning with AS9100 and customer-specific requirements.Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations : job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
