Life Science Research Professional 1

Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 for the Raymond lab in the Department of Neurobiology to contribute to research on the neural mechanisms of learning and memory. The successful candidate will work closely with senior members of the laboratory to contribute to the research while advancing their own scientific skills. Experimental approaches such as behavioral analysis, electrophysiology, and / or manipulations of the relevant neural circuits will be used. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and motivation to learn are essential. Duties include :

• Perform experiments and analyze results.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
• Contribute to experimental design, analysis and interpretation.
• Contribute to publication of findings through the preparation of figures and text.
• Manage the mouse colony, including breeding.
• Perform general lab support functions : maintain lab organization and regulatory compliance, and provide other lab support as needed. • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
• Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
• Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
• Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
