Our client in the oil and gas industry is seeking an experienced Joint Interest Billing (JIB) Accountant to join their team in the midtown area of Houston. This contract-to-hire position is ideal for accounting professionals with a solid background in oil & gas joint interest operations and a proven ability to manage complex billing transactions while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong partner relations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Joint Interest Billing Operations :
  • Prepare and distribute monthly JIBs to working interest partners.
  • Review and validate costs for proper allocation across multiple properties.
  • Process partner payments and manage accounts receivable for joint interest operations.
  • Reconcile partner statements and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Prepare recurring JIB entries and bank fees.
  • Cost Management & Analysis :
  • Analyze lease operating expenses, drilling costs, and capital expenditures for proper coding.
  • Provide monthly in-house LOE statements at a well level using Integra software.
  • Prepare crude oil sales ticket reconciliations.
  • Code invoices to correct JIB accounts, wells, or allocation groups.
  • Compliance & Documentation :
  • Maintain detailed documentation supporting JIB transactions.
  • Assist with regulatory production reporting requirements.
  • Partner Relations & Communication :
  • Act as the primary contact for joint venture partners regarding billing inquiries.
  • Coordinate with partners’ accounting departments for dispute resolution and cost explanations.
  • Systems & Process Improvement :
  • Utilize Integra and Field Direct software systems.
  • Propose process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Assist with system implementations and upgrades.

Required Qualifications :

  • Education & Experience :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of oil and gas accounting experience, with JIB expertise preferred.
  • Technical Skills :
  • Proficiency with JIB software systems (Integra preferred).
  • Experience with QuickBooks and advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Understanding of oil and gas terminology and joint operating agreements.
  • Core Competencies :
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and organizational capabilities.

    • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prior experience with upstream oil and gas operations.

    • Working Conditions :

  • Office-based position in downtown Houston.
  • Typical Monday–Friday business hours.
