Tulsa City-County Library, a valued partner in the Tulsa community since 1961, is seeking a dynamic

Public Relations Director

who is forward-thinking, strategic, and has proven results of positively safeguarding and promoting organizational reputation. The ideal candidate will have a background working with on air news, or as a spokesperson or media liaison demonstrating good judgment and the ability to make sound decisions within broad general policies and procedures.

The

Public Relations Director

serves as the official voice and public representative of the Tulsa City-County Library,

responsible for working as a collaborative partner with key stakeholders on all external communications, including media relations, public statements, and responses to inquiries from elected officials and the public. Working under the direction of senior leadership, this high visibility position is an enthusiastic and professional public information officer responsible for developing long term strategies to ensure an engaging public image and a positive reputation in the communities TCCL serves.

Salary :

$7,983.00 - $9,983.00 per month. Compensation commensurate with experience

A full benefit package (medical, dental, retirement, paid time off) is offered with this position.

Status : Exempt - Full Time

Schedule :

  • Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm; some weekends and evenings as needed;

Qualified individuals must demonstrate the ability to :

Manage change in a fast-paced environment in a calm and effective manner

Maintain a positive relationship with local news stations and other media outlets

Provide exceptional verbal and written communications across multiple channels

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or related field required, with a Master's degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in public relations, media, or government affairs required;
  • Experience in a high-profile or public sector environment preferred;
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and on-air news reporting;
  • Proven experience working with on-air news, or as a spokesperson or media liaison, with an emphasis on managing external communications;
  • Ability to respond to questions from groups of media, managers, customers and the general public

    Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Deep understanding and ability to successful navigate sensitive political and governmental processes;
  • Ability to manage crisis communications and sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a dynamic personality.

    Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions

    Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

    Work is typically conducted indoors with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    Routine in-town travel with occasional out-of-town trips.
