Doherty Staffing Solutions is partnering with a leading manufacturer located in Cambridge, MN. We are seeking a candidate for an Estimator role. Compensation for this direct hire opportunity is $85,000-$97,000 per year, depending on experience. Interested? Read below to learn more!

What you will do as an Estimator :

  • Collaborate with engineering to validate design feasibility and project scope
  • Analyze RFQs, drawings, and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates
  • Calculate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs
  • Prepare budgetary and formal quotations in support of the sales team
  • Coordinate with sales and production teams to align with client expectations and shop capacity
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing and lead times for materials and subcontracted work
  • Work with production to assess fabrication timelines, labor availability, and overall shop capacity
  • Participate in customer meetings to review job scope, address concerns, and explore alternative solutions
  • Ensure estimates comply with applicable industry codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII, API 650 / 620)
  • Incorporate safety, quality, and regulatory standards into all proposals
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
  • Support vendor relationship management and performance tracking

What you need to be an Estimator :

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy fabrication, pressure vessels, or industrial manufacturing
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Compress, Excel-based tools)
  • Strong understanding of welding, rolling, machining, and finishing processes
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, and other relevant codes and standards
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
