American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Ortho Neuro Surgical) position requiring a SD or compact RN license, with 12-hour day shifts and mixed acuity care.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the Ortho Neuro Surgical (ONS) unit of a hospital settingMixed acuity unit with Intermediate / Stepdown, Telemetry, and MedSurg-level patientsPatient population includes surgical, ortho, neuro, spine, and general medical cases such as urology, ortho trauma, CVA / TIA, craniotomies, COPD, CHF, and wound careNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 for PCU assignmentsUses Epic EMR; experience required12-hour day shifts with potential weekend coverage up to 4 out of 6 weekends per scheduleMay float to Adult Inpatient Units within scope, including Med Surg, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and ObservationPod structure with team support, including CNAs, charge nurses, flex nurses, respiratory therapy, and clinician supportFirst-time travelers accepted if experience and Epic proficiency are metTravelers must reside at least 100 miles away from any Monument Health facilityPermanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler2 days of department orientation followed by 2 unit shifts with a preceptorOrientation includes classroom and facility protocolsNo mandatory call requirements, but may be placed on call for extra shiftsHoliday RTO not accepted; requests for time off must be prior to offer and limited to 1.5 weeks, provided contract extension accommodates full 13 weeksScrub color is navy blue; free parking providedBlackout dates for time off during annual local events; dates may change each year\n \n Requirements\n
Active SD or compact RN licenseMinimum 1 year of Intermediate or Stepdown level nursing experience requiredBLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications requiredCompletion of a board-approved nursing education programEpic charting experience required (especially for first-time travelers)Ability to assess, manage, and care for MedSurg, neuro, and cardiac telemetry patientsCompetence in cardiac strip interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, line management, wound care, medication administration, TPN / tube feeding, blood transfusions, and collection device managementAbility to titrate drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and esmolol\n Benefits\n
