Position Purpose :

Under limited supervision, the Prevention Specialist promotes community, individual health and well-being through the delivery of prevention strategies and services directed by the state of Iowa and participate as a member of a dedicated team in the delivery of services.

$6,000 Sign-on Bonus!

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, human services or related field.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or be certified within 18 months of hire.
  • Public speaking experience (preferred)
  • Prior experience facilitating groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Responsibilities :

  • Promotes destigmatization of substance use disorders.
  • Coordinate services with referral sources and other community resources.
  • Understand and demonstrate knowledge of the Strategic Prevention Framework and Public Health Model of prevention.
  • Provide direct service hours to community.
  • Complete and maintain confidential written reports within prescribed time frames.
  • Design prevention programs to meet the needs of the community and / or special interest groups.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the disease process of addiction, the core functions of prevention, and apply these appropriately to job duties.
  • Use and / or develop evaluation tools to measure outcomes for prevention programs.
  • Meet the short-term outcomes and all deliverable expectations as written in the grant.
  • Attend all team meetings as assigned.

    Schedule :

  • Monday-Friday, 8 : 30AM-5PM; occasional evenings

  • Base Pay : starting at $46,800 annually (pay is based on education, experience and credentials)
