Job Summary
We are looking for an attentive and driven Radar Systems Engineer to join our team. Your main duties will include supporting the development, implementation, and testing of signal processing workflows to exploit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. Day-to-day responsibilities will focus on SAR image ingestion, data formatting, maintenance of SAR-related software (i.e. SARPy), and assisting senior staff with analytic development. This role will provide essential support to ensure Ursa’s SAR infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and adaptable to new data sources and vendor modes.
This position will report to the Director of Analytics.
Job Responsibilities
- Support SAR image ingest and preprocessing workflows
- Maintain and adapt SARPy to handle evolving vendor modes and formats
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving SAR formatting issues
- Contribute to the development and testing of SAR processing algorithms
- Participate in agile software development processes to bring tools into operational use
- Engage in design discussions, code reviews, and peer collaboration
- Communicate effectively and collaborate across teams
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline2-3 years of relevant experience (internships or academic projects acceptable)Proficiency in PythonFamiliarity with remote sensing and signal processing algorithms, ideally SAR-focusedUnderstanding of SAR imaging modes and commercially available SAR productsBasic knowledge of object detection and classification modelsAbility to communicate technical information clearly and effectivelyActive curiosity and a desire to learn and grow as a technical contributorA fast, reliable internet connection if you are working remotely is a mustPreferred Skills / Qualifications
M.S. or higher degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical fieldFamiliarity with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)Exposure to geospatial analysis tools (ArcGIS, QGIS)Knowledge and hands-on experience with SARPyUnderstanding of GIS in the context of SAR imageryKnowledge of modeling / simulation of radar systems and imageryExposure to computer vision or machine learning techniquesFamiliarity with cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform)Experience adhering to security best practicesLocation
Hybrid or Remote. Required attendance at mandatory Ursa meetings at Headquarters when necessary (typically 2–3 times per year).Compensation
