Seeking :
We are seeking an energetic, highly-motivated, qualified reference archivist to support the Johnson Publishing Company Archive (JPCA) and the establishment of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture’s (NMAAHC’s) first centralized reference service in Washington, DC.

Skills / experience required :
Master’s degree in library science, archival studies, or a related fieldMinimum three years of professional experience in archival reference servicesExpertise with reference systems such as LibAnswers, LibCRM, and LibCalKnowledge of Describing Archives : A Content Standard (DACS)Understanding of African American history and cultureDemonstrated experience producing performance analytics and compliance reportsTasking :
Managing NMAAHC’s LibAnswers, LibCRM, and LibCal systems to ensure efficient triage and response to research inquiriesCoordinating with internal teams and producing weekly inquiry triage reportsCreating monthly analytics dashboards (inquiries, response times, categories)Supporting FOIA compliance and co-ownership agreementsDocumenting and recommending reference service scalingEnsuring compliance with Smithsonian directives and national archival standardsProviding regular project status updates and reporting to the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR)Completing other duties as assignedDeliverables include :
Centralized reference workflows for JPCAAdministration of the Springshare platform (LibAnswers, LibCRM, LibCal)Weekly and monthly reporting (inquiries, analytics, compliance)Documentation for scaling reference servicesClearance Requirements :
Ability to pass a corporate and Federal background check. Previous Federal Agency check (or higher) clearance preferred.
Work location :
Primarily onsite at NMAAHC locations in Washington, DC and Hyattsville, MD.
Some remote work from home may be available.
