Responsibilities
- Field Engineering responsibilities include closeout redlines, test audits, lessons learned, warranties, and product submittals.
- Redline management : leads and superintendents oversee submitting changes to the Statement of Work (SoW). Redlines shall be completed and submitted to engineering; Field Engineers track with an internal calendar to ensure what needs to be done and when it is finalized.
- Build-out will involve significant redlining, driven by measurements, equipment placements, grounding / bonding.
- Field Engineers verify that all infrastructure is installed to design / spec; if changes occur, they finalize redlines for closeout.
- Fiber : use an internal tracker to manage redlines for ISP; update design per past changes and have Field Engineers verify all Fiber scope.
- Copper : an internal tracker provides information needed for close-out; Field Engineer may act as point of contact to ensure install-to-print, perform redlines if changes occur, and verify before close-out.
- Network : if redlining is needed, Field Engineer collaborates to configure details and takes on most responsibilities.
- RFI referencing / implementation : Field Engineer references RFIs in redlines before QA review.
- Test Audit(s) : Field Engineer conducts and verifies audits after project completion; includes verifying the cable schedule and organizing the project for team use; ensures 100% verification that testing projects match prints.
- Audits are started as areas are ready; retests are issued with expected completion dates and finalization occurs after retests.
- Lessons Learned : engineers and QA actively update the document throughout the build; final review with teams uses the standardized lessons learned template; information comes from the lessons learned tracker and installation teams.
- Warranties : Field Engineer gathers information toward the end of the build and coordinates with a designated team member to process warranties.
- Product Submittals : Field Engineer completes product submittals; first submittal after RFP; verify BOM against POs and obtain product sheets as required.
- Labels : Field Engineer assists with printing labels; objectives include printing labels before installation to save time; maintains area bins and sign-out sheets; emails engineering for reprints with reasons.
- RFIs : Field Engineer may oversee RFIs before submission; RFIs are prepared collaboratively; design-related feedback from RFIs becomes lessons learned; RFI acceptance / rejection communications are issued to applicable teams.
