We are looking for a detail-oriented HIM Technician to join our clients' team in St. Helena, California. This contract position requires working onsite and involves handling medical records, ensuring accuracy in documentation, and supporting administrative processes related to patient care. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of health information systems while adhering to established guidelines.

Responsibilities :

  • Organize and prepare medical records for efficient scanning, ensuring compliance with established procedures and productivity standards.
  • Retrieve and file paper records required for patient care, maintaining proper tracking using chart tracking software.
  • Conduct interviews with mothers to gather birth certificate information and accurately input data into the electronic birth certificate system.
  • Process and forward completed birth certificates to the county, manage fetal death certificates, and respond to inquiries regarding certificates.
  • Operate scanning equipment, review scanned images for quality, and complete scanning processes for quality review.
  • Provide assistance to physicians in resolving chart deficiencies and inquiries related to dictation, transcription, and document imaging software.
  • Perform chart audits, assist in deficiency analysis, and address issues related to medical record documentation.
  • Maintain the organization of the file room, retrieve charts from permanent files or off-site storage, and support record purging activities.
  • Respond to user inquiries regarding the release of information and ensure proper handling of patient records.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support health information management processes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical record procedures, scanning processes, and document imaging systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency in using scanning equipment and related software.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and comply with organizational policies.
  • Experience in conducting audits and resolving deficiencies related to health information systems is a plus.
