Position Summary :
We’re seeking a Director of Finance to lead and strengthen the financial health and operational infrastructure of our organization. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on financial management and cross-departmental collaboration. You’ll oversee accounting, budgeting, compliance, mortgage and grant management, and IT vendor oversight—all while ensuring mission-aligned resource stewardship.
Essential Functions :
Strategic & Financial Leadership :
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Director and Finance Committee.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Provide timely, mission-aligned financial insights to guide decision-making.
Operational & Fiscal Management :
Manage all accounting and financial reporting functions in accordance with GAAP.Administer biweekly payroll, PTO tracking, unemployment claims, and SIMPLE IRA plans.Oversee audits, tax filings (Form 990, 1099s, W-2s, sales tax, Form 5500), and grant compliance.Supervise the Staff Accountant and oversee AP, donor receipts, POS accounting, and sales tax filings.Mortgage & Grant Oversight :
Manage mortgage portfolio onboarding and delinquency tracking.Ensure compliance with government grant requirements and financial reporting.IT & Systems Management :
Oversee IT vendor relationships and cybersecurity practices.Lead standardization of tech systems across Construction, ReStore, HR, Payroll, and Development.Training & Compliance :
Serve as Plan Administrator for retirement plans and AML Compliance Officer.Conduct financial training for staff and board as needed.Represent the organization in external finance and donor networks.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).5+ years of financial leadership experience (nonprofit experience highly valued).Strong command of GAAP, compliance, and nonprofit fiscal operations.Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Workspace.Excellent communicator with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.Tech-savvy and systems-oriented; comfortable improving workflows and adopting new tools.Preferred Experience :
Mortgage servicing and / or community development finance.Managing audits and grants.Overseeing retirement plan administration and IT vendors.Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods at a desk / computer.Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.Local travel to meetings and events as needed.Compensation & Benefits :
