Overview
Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal or Senior Principal-Level Engineer, preferably based in one of our Atlanta offices (Kennesaw or Midtown), but can also be based in GA, AL, MS, LA, or TX. This position will serve as an Engineering Practice Leader for Dams and Hydraulic Structures in the Southeast US. The candidate should have a degree in Engineering with specialization in geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, hydrology and hydraulics, or structural engineering, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. The role provides technical leadership and collaborates with the network of dam engineering professionals to grow the national Dams and Hydraulic Structures Engineering practice in the region, contributing to innovative projects involving heavy-civil works and hydraulic structures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaboration and mentoring are core to Geosyntec's culture. We operate a sell-manage-do approach. You will work on challenging technical projects, help expand our practices, and may take on project management, staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Key responsibilities include :
- Lead business development within adjacent states in collaboration with the Dams and Hydraulic Structures practice and regional staff.
- Develop and coordinate a Regional business strategy for Dams and Hydraulic Structures.
- Establish relationships with potential clients; identify and track clients and opportunities.
- Recruit top talent and assemble a multi-disciplinary team.
- Leverage relationships with potential teaming partners; work with marketing to prepare materials; lead technical proposals.
- Participate in professional organizations and activities.
- Provide leadership to develop and implement dam engineering best practices within the firm.
- Mentor technical staff and assist with staff development and recruitment to grow the firm's dam engineering capabilities in the Southeast US.
- Provide technical leadership, direction, and oversight for dams and hydraulic structures projects in areas such as :
- Dam safety inspections and engineering assessments of concrete and embankment dams, levees, and related structures.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for spillways, outlet works, dam break analyses, and inundation mapping for consequence evaluation.
- Geotechnical analyses and design for embankment dams including seepage, slope stability, and liquefaction triggering.
- Structural evaluations and stability analyses of concrete dams, spillways, and ancillary structures.
- Potential failure modes analyses and SQRA / QRA risk analyses.
- Alternatives analyses for rehabilitation options; design and detailing of rehabilitation schemes for dams and appurtenances, foundations, RCC dams, spillways, energy dissipation structures, and related components.
- Preparation of construction plans and specifications; instrumentation and design services during construction.
Education and Licensure
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related engineering degree) – required.Advanced degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geology, Structural, or Hydraulics Engineering – preferred.Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. – required; Georgia P.E. or ability to obtain by comity within 6 months of employment – required.NCEES Record for P.E. comity – preferred.Skills, Experience and Qualifications
10+ years (15+ preferred) of progressive experience in consulting or an equivalent combination of education and experience – required.Knowledge of the water resources and dams practice in the Region.Knowledge of Risk-Informed-Decision-Making methodologies (e.g., USACE, FERC, Reclamation) – preferred.Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel – required.LI-KO1
