POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Responsible for sales, use, and occupancy tax function; includes supervision and responsibility for compliance, research, and audits.
MAJOR / KEY JOB DUTIES
- Oversees preparation and filing of approximately 1,200 sales / use / hotel tax returns per month; includes making required tax payments and reconciling all general ledger accounts.
- Supervises three tax specialists preparing sales / use / hotel returns.
- Conduct research and review research performed by tax staff in order to properly document exempt guest revenue; includes monitoring changes in statutes and tax rates.
- Manage sales, use, and occupancy tax exams.
- Work with VP Tax and Tax Director on meeting departmental goals.
- Work with outside consultants on special projects.
- Provides support to hotel sites.
- Attend to human resource matters; includes performance reviews and disciplinary matters.

Detailed knowledge of sales and use taxes (Occupancy tax experience preferred).Experience overseeing sales and use tax audits and interacting with tax authorities.Negotiation skills.Proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel and Word).Good communication skills; both orally and in writing.ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.Less than 10% travel.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting / financePrevious supervisory experience.8+ years' experience in sales and use tax.Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location; there may be a need to move / lift material or equipment of more than moderate weight (approximately 30 pounds).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Occupancy tax experience preferred.
