Off-Shift Automation Engineer
As an Automation Engineer , you will be a key contributor in designing, programming, installing, and optimizing advanced automated systems that power our manufacturing operations. Your expertise will drive innovation across programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, vision systems, HMI interfaces, and a wide range of pneumatic and electrical instrumentation. You'll also play a hands-on role in the development, commissioning, and training of finishing and assembly equipment—ensuring our production lines are efficient, intelligent, and future-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Systems & Process Control
- Ensure all automated systems are up to date and fully integrated into plant operations
- Lead the implementation of new automation technologies and support complex troubleshooting
- Own and maintain process control instrumentation, conveyor systems, VFDs, and error-proofing systems (Poka-Yoke)
- Develop and deliver hands-on automation training for associates
- Use PFMEA to proactively identify and mitigate process risks
- Support new machine launches and special projects
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with lean manufacturing and POMS philosophy
- Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance quality, efficiency, and reliability
- Safety & Risk Management
- Perform risk assessments and ensure safe practices before any work inside machines (LOTO)
- Train and coach technicians on LOTO procedures and escalate safety concerns to the LOTO Steering Committee
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and proactively identify gaps in standard work instructions
- Operational Excellence
- Empowered to stop production in case of safety or quality concerns
- Support production in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Perform physical tasks as needed (lifting up to 33 lbs, working in varying temperatures)
- Occasional travel may be required
- Production Equipment Systems (PES) Support
- Provide on-shift support and coaching to operators and end users
- Troubleshoot and escalate software / hardware issues, ensuring timely resolution
- Collaborate with the local PES Coordinator and central teams to improve system performance
- Participate in the Key Users' functional network and manage support tickets

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experienceMinimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment—experience in plastics or automotive is a strong plusTechnical Expertise
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and maintaining technical data to support decision-makingSolid understanding of electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics, with the ability to identify and manage hazardous energy sources on a machine-by-machine basisHands-on experience with BMM systems, finishing centers, and utilitiesDeep knowledge of Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) procedures, including :Application methods and devices
