Our real estate portfolio spans Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, with the majority located in the Bronx. We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Affordable Housing Compliance Specialist to manage income certifications and rent compliance across our permanent supportive housing programs. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, work independently, and collaborate effectively with both social service and property management teams. This role includes preparing and submitting rental assistance documentation required by NYC HRA / HASA and NYS ESSHI to ensure timely reimbursement. Occasional travel to our buildings is required, so access to a car is preferred. Key Responsibilities :

Collect and review required income documentation from tenants and on-site social service teams.

Complete initial certifications, annual recertifications, and interim re-certifications per funder guidelines and regulatory agreements.

Accurately calculate tenant rents based on program-specific requirements and ensure timely documentation and reporting.

Prepare, submit, and track rental assistance documentation for NYC HRA / HASA and NYS ESSHI; ensure accuracy and compliance with payment guidelines.

Maintain organized, audit-ready compliance records for all supportive housing tenants.

Collaborate with asset management, property management, and social services to resolve compliance issues and promote housing stability.

Monitor compliance deadlines and proactively follow up to ensure timely submission of required materials.

Respond to funder inquiries and audits in a timely manner; assist with clearing findings.

Stay current on changes to compliance regulations and funding guidelines; update internal documentation and communicate updates to staff.

Demonstrate strong initiative, accountability, and problem-solving skills while working with minimal supervision.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in affordable or supportive housing compliance; strong preference for experience with ESSHI and / or HRA / HASA programs.

Working knowledge of income eligibility rules, rent calculations, and funding compliance requirements.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and tasks independently.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with housing compliance platforms such as Yardi or BostonPost is a plus.

Access to a car and willingness to travel to sites in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

Preferred Experience :

Direct experience preparing and submitting NYS ESSHI and NYC HRA / HASA rental assistance documentation.

Experience working within nonprofit permanent supportive housing programs.

Familiarity with NYC and NYS affordable housing compliance regulations and best practices.
