About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : Nursing

Certifications : BLS required, PALS preferred

Must-Have : Pediatric experience preferred

Description :

The unit has a total of 45 beds, combining adult and pediatric medical-surgical patients.

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 to 5.

The charting system used is Cerner.

Charge Nurses lead the team and do not take patient assignments.

Nurse Aides work 8 or 10-hour shifts, with no tech coverage from 1 am to 7 am.

Weekend requirements include every other or four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule.

Scrubs are navy in color.

Nurses are not required to know how to read and interpret telemetry.

Ventilator management is not expected, as a hospitalist is available but not 24 / 7.

Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7, while pharmacy support is not available 24 / 7.

Self-scheduling is available to some degree, with schedules made 30-45 days in advance.

Floating to telemetry or obstetrics is optional if the nurse has experience.

Orientation includes 2-3 days, with one day dedicated to a scavenger hunt.

Common diagnoses and patient types include post-operative care, COPD, GI bleeds, and orthopedic surgeries.

The unit is fast-paced, with an average patient length of stay of 3 days.

Familiarity with protonix or heparin drips is beneficial.

Pediatric experience is preferred; candidates without this experience will not be assigned pediatric patients.

Cancellation policy allows for the possibility of cancellations up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment.

The care setting is acute.

Trauma level is 3.
