Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele Float position, requiring at least two years of recent experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Med / Surg Telemetry Float Pool of a hospital setting
  • Float to all medical / surgical floors and possibly affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Patient ratio is typically 1 : 6, with a maximum of 1 : 7 during high census periods
  • Work schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts (18 : 45-07 : 15), totaling 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend is required as part of the work schedule
  • Uses Epic for charting, Pyxis for medication administration, and SBAR communication tools
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs
  • 24 hours of unit orientation provided
  • Navy and / or white scrubs are required
  • Will be assigned to Storm Team and / or Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
  • May be consolidated or preassigned to various units based on organizational needs
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
  • No RTO allowed during the first week of assignment or after booking; up to 7 days RTO may be approved if it does not fall on a holiday
  • Fatigue policy prohibits working more than 5 days in a row or more than 60 hours in a week
  • Online, webinar, and in-person modules (8-10 hours for acute care) must be completed pre-start and annually

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required in hand by start date
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Med / Surg Telemetry nursing experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required
  • IV start and telemetry monitoring skills required
  • Pass EKG testing prior to start
  • No first-time travelers accepted
  • Candidates with previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employment at the facility must have a 12-month separation before consideration
  • Current travel Per Diem clinicians with this health system are not eligible
  • Experience with Epic charting system required
  • References must be provided prior to start
