JOB SUMMARY

The Cook I reports to the Program Director and is responsible for cooking quality meals for the facility in compliance with contract requirements for the Quest House Program. The Cook I is responsible for meal planning, menus and food purchasing. The Cook I is responsible for the safety and sanitation of the kitchen, the dining room, the pantry and the food storage units.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares and cooks various items based on approved menus, special dietary needs, nutritional or cultural requirements, or numbers of portions for meals served to all Program Residents in accordance with facility contracts.
• Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and eating areas (counters, shelves, cabinets, walls, floors, drains, vents / ducts, ceiling, appliances, etc.) in accordance with all State and Local health department sanitation requirements.
• In collaboration with the full time cook, develop meal plans and menus that meet all nutritional standards; submit menus for pre-approval before use.
• In collaboration with the fulltime cook, performs inventory of supplies and equipment based on a schedule; insures all food items, supplies and equipment are properly stored and accounted for.
• Replenish supplies and purchase food on a weekly basis (or as needed) according to the menu, the budget and the inventory, always in collaboration with the fulltime cook.
• Be responsible for receiving, labeling and placement of food and commodities on shelves, in refrigerators and freezers is done in accordance with all State, Local Health Department and contract requirements.
• Taste test all food prior to serving it to the residents and reserve a sampling of each meal for twenty-four (24) hors to determine possible food contamination.
• May work with and be a resource for residents assisting with food preparations and clean up duties.
• Develop written procedure for dispensing and retrieving all utensils during and after the meals.
• Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
• Will drive on Agency business.
• Physical presence at the program is required.
