POSITION SUMMARY : Participates as a member of the Center healthcare team in planning, preparing, and producing a safe and effective pre- and post-procedural experience for patients undergoing GI procedures. Provides input in the development and implementation of goals and objectives to support the nursing process, the standards development process, and the performance improvement process. Maintains clinical competency in professional nursing practice.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION : The eligible candidates will have completed an accredited School of Nursing and possesses a current PA RN license with no restrictions or actions taken against the license. The candidate must also possess CPR certification, ACLS certification, and surgical, critical care, or same day surgery experience preferred. If a candidate is not BLS and ACLS certified, our office will get them certified within 90 days of hire.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Familiarity with personal computer and ancillary equipment, telephone, billing computer system, copier, and fax. Able to use and / or willingness to learn Microsoft office software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists in the development and implementation of the patient care delivery system.
- Demonstrates knowledge of pre-procedural and post-procedural nursing care delivery.
- Monitors patient's physiological status during pre-procedural and post-procedural phases.
- Ensures appropriate patient preparation prior to the scheduled procedure.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge of the nursing process and adheres to the process and structure standards of the Surgical Center.
- Fosters a customer-focused environment for patients, visitors and members of the health care team.
- Assumes role of patient advocate to address the patient's biophysical, psychosocial and cultural needs as evidenced by observation and through feedback of others.
- Consistently fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation through communication and cooperation with all members of the health care team as evidenced by observation.
- Fosters public relations through positive representation of the organization.

- Delegates duties and responsibilities to support staff according to job description.
- Serves as a resource person to the health care team.
- Serves on committees and / or participates in changes of policy and procedures that affect the operation of services as documented.
- Participates with support services to promote a safe, clean environment, as evidenced by customer responses and regulatory inspections.
- Supports the mission and goals of the Center
- Consistently adheres to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines; applies universal precautions per Center standards as observed.
- Demonstrates an awareness of patient safety and proper body mechanics when moving patients or equipment.
- Accurately completes incident reports within the shift of occurrence and immediately communicates critical incidents to the appropriate person per the organizational chart.
- Responsible for direct patient care and safety of patient during pre- and post-procedural stays
- Assesses and addresses nutritional needs of the patient post-procedure.
- Provides patient discharge instructions.
- Documents clearly and thoroughly in the medical record and assists in the maintenance of patient medical records
- Administers medications in accordance with Center standards and federal and state regulations for medication administration
- Assists in equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting
- Assists in responding to any patient or plant emergencies in accordance with approved procedures
- Assists with the orientation of new personnel as assigned.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient, Center, and physician information; respects the patient's privacy.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA : Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Actively participate in the patient safety improvement and management program.
- Functions in the Charge Nurse role when the Clinical Director or is unavailable.
- Responsible to provide a safe, clean and orderly environment, including cleaning, disinfection and daily maintenance of Endoscopy environment and equipment.
