About the Position

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who has demonstrated expertise in Acute Hospital Care. Effectively delivers care to the patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the Charge Nurse possesses the following skills : demonstrated leadership ability, ability to process multiple sources of information independently utilizing critical thinking, is adaptable to frequently changing situations, understands and responds to the needs of a multi-disciplinary team, works to build trust, is passionate about the needs of the customer (patient, family, providers, team members), demonstrated communication skills, and works to empower all members of the team to work toward their full potential. This position is responsible to ensure that timely, accurate, and professional nursing care is provided to the patients and families.
Here's what you'll do when you join us
Assists and supports unit employees :MSP RN's, NST / NA'sPerforms daily rounds in MSP and leads ongoing "huddles" as necessary to ensure smooth patient flow.Collaborates with Manager / House Supervisor to obtain updated census of other hospital units and discuss plan of potential hospital admissions.Assists in maintaining patient and organizational flow, admission, and discharge coordination :Collaborates with the Critical Care Services and Surgical Services Charge Nurses to assist with any needs of coordinating patient flow.
Utilization review / Case management support for admission criteria dailyEnsure the process of reporting patient status to the following shift of nursing personnel.Ensure rounds on patients in the department that they are kept informed and updated on the patient's condition and / or situation.Staffs the unit according to organizational guidelines, ensure meal breaks for all staff, and facilitate to reduce overtime.Evaluates the effectiveness of care and addresses issues that may affect the desired patient outcomes. Promotes the delivery of safe effective and appropriate care in a timely and accurate manner.Assists / supports staff with all levels of patient care delivery.
Oversee and directs the planning and distribution of patient assignments.May assume patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.Address patient and / or family issues / concern and communicates to the Manager. Understand and utilizes the online variance reporting system.Assesses risk, responds, and solves issues that may arise in the MSP department and provides a safe working environment for the entire department.Performs and / or delegates the completion of quality review, regulatory observational / chart audits; actively contributes to quality and development including compliance, core measure and documentation.Demonstrates ability to provide immediate professional practice feedback to staff.Interacts with and contributes to the professional growth of peers, colleagues, and unit.Collaborates and supports staffs to ensure the completion of annual unit specific trainings, and organizational required education.Responds and assists or delegates all Trauma, STEMI, Stroke activations.Ensure completion of the daily / monthly checks (i.e. Crash carts, accuchecks).Provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for family-centered approach, in accordance with established policies, procedures of the healthcare organization, as well as guidelines of profession organization.Oversees and directs the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluation according to the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, physician's orders, recognized nursing techniques, policies, procedures, and established standards.Demonstrated abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians' priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, teaching / delegation skills and respectful communication.Demonstrates mature judgment, initiative, and proficiency in nursing skills.
Demonstrates leadership qualities, executive and organizational abilities.Ability to lead and mentor change in culture of patient care team.Ability to adapt resources to the need of the situation.Leads by example in displaying consistent behaviors reflective of GICH standards of conduct.Collaborates and delegates to ancillary / professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scopes of practice, considering licensure and / or certification.Identifies accurately nursing diagnosis / collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.Assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care.Acquires and maintains specialized knowledge and skills in nursing practice include but are not limited to : IV access, basic ECG interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, postpartum care / assessment, and respiratory management.Utilizes departments equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures.Communicates professionally and collaborates effectively with patients, families, co-workers, health care team members and ancillary departments to ensure patient centered coordination of care. Maintains positive working relationship with all multidisciplinary members of the care team.Initiates and documents discharge and transfer planning; facilitates "Patient Centered" communication and care.Maintains knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and incorporates the standards into the practice of Medical / Surgical / Pediatric nursing.Provides leadership in the profession and professional practice setting. Collaboration with and delegates to ancillary / professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scopes of practice, obtains licensure and / or certification.Participates in professional growth and self-development activities to ensure accountability for own professional nursing practice.Participates in staff meetings, committees (i.e. Code Blue, Fall Prevention, Employee Safety and Violence Prevention) and projects; actively contributes to the MSP quality and development.If you have these qualifications, we'd love to chat :
Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.2 years of Acute Care Hospital nursing experience.Medical Surgical Certification preferred or willing to obtain within 24 months.EKG interpretation preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and maintain certification.Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within six months of employment and maintains certification.Demonstrated abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff, and physicians' priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, teaching / delegation skills and respectful communication.Demonstrates mature judgment, initiative, and proficiency in nursing skills.
Demonstrates leadership qualities, executive and organizational abilities.Ability to lead and mentor change in culture of patient care team.Ability to adapt resources to the need of the situation.Leads by example in displaying consistent behaviors reflective of GICH standards of conduct.Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca and Hospital policies, vision, mission, and values.Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with 1-year Acute Care Hospital nursing experience.Perform other related duties as required.
