The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek applicants for a full-time clinician or clinician-scientist faculty position in Medical Retina to join the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time clinical or clinician-scientist faculty position. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care, research, and education, primarily in our new OSU multi-specialty medical office buildings and surgical suites in the metro Columbus area. Participation in coverage at Columbus, VA, is also required.

Department / Division Overview

The Ohio State University prides itself on being one of the largest universities in the country. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has been established for over 100 years. We have over 40 faculty and a strong support staff. The Havener Eye Institute has its primary location in the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus. We have newly constructed state-of-the-art facilities that include on-site outpatient surgical centers. We strive to provide the highest quality of care for our patients with the latest surgical equipment and instrumentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Division Director and / or Department Chair determines work assignments. Each faculty member is expected to perform the full range of responsibilities in teaching, research / scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of faculty responsibility, with or without the presence of a trainee.
  • Support the academic mission of the Department. In consultation with the Department Chair, opportunities exist to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development and education initiatives, or other activities consistent with the faculty assignment. Responsibilities include patient care, research, and education, primarily in OSU facilities in the metro Columbus area. Participation in coverage at Columbus, VA, is required.
  • Service commitments include clinical service at OSUWMC facilities and other sites as assigned. Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected. Participation in professional organizations is expected.

Requirements

Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment and be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio. Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and have completed an approved residency in Ophthalmology. Subspecialty training in a Reina fellowship is required. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management in the subspecialty. Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery by evidence of basic and / or clinical research and publications. Commitment to resident, fellow, and medical student education is required.

  • Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. Requires MD / DO / PhD or other terminal degree. Not eligible for tenure; terms of 3-5 years; focus on clinical care, may include teaching and / or research.
  • Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include assistant / associate / professor eligible for or having tenure. Primary focus on research, service, and teaching. May include clinical care for MD / DO or MD / PhD.
  • Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Titles include research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent. Not eligible for tenure; focus on research.
