Job Overview :

A prominent law firm located in Columbus, OH, is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney to join its Employee Benefits and ERISA practice. This role offers an opportunity to advise clients on a broad range of transactional and regulatory issues related to retirement plans, executive compensation, and other employee benefit arrangements. The firm is known for delivering high-level legal strategies to regional and national clients and is expanding its practice with a dedicated legal professional who thrives in a collaborative and business-oriented setting.

Duties :

  • Guide ERISA, tax, and compliance matters affecting benefit plans and compensation arrangements
  • Structure and review retirement and welfare benefit plans for legal compliance and strategic optimization
  • Draft, revise, and interpret plan documents, policies, and related materials
  • Advise clients on executive compensation, employment agreements, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans
  • Conduct due diligence and support transactions involving ESOPs and other benefit-related considerations
  • Assist in identifying risks and developing practical legal solutions for employers and plan sponsors
  • Stay current with developments in employee benefits law and related federal regulations

Requirements :

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience focusing on ERISA, employee benefits, or executive compensation matters
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex transactional work within a law firm environment
  • Proficiency in analyzing IRS and DOL rules and guidance
  • Prior experience advising on ESOPs is highly desirable
  • Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills
  • The capability to independently manage assignments and interact with clients

    • Education :

    Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

    Certifications :

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Eligibility for admission in Ohio, or willingness to obtain it

    • Skills :

  • Strong legal research and drafting skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle high volumes of information
  • Client service orientation with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Team-oriented mindset with collaborative instincts
