Veterinary Technician FLSA Status : Non-Exempt, Full-Time Your Mission As a Veterinary Technician for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission by supporting veterinarians and providing medical care to animals in both clinic and shelter settings. Your work ensures high-quality care for patients while supporting pet owners with the knowledge and resources they need to keep their animals healthy. What You’ll Do In this role, you will assist veterinarians during examinations and surgeries, monitor anesthesia, and provide attentive post-operative care to ensure the comfort and recovery of animals. You will conduct diagnostic procedures, including lab tests, X-rays, and other essential screenings, while maintaining accurate medical records for each patient. You will work directly with clients, educating them on preventative care, treatment plans, and post-treatment instructions to strengthen the human-animal bond. Beyond direct animal care, you’ll help maintain clean and organized work areas, operate and care for diagnostic equipment, and contribute to a safe and collaborative team environment. What You Bring You have a High School Diploma or GED and experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital. An associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and certification as a Veterinary Technician are preferred. You bring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you are comfortable working with both clients and colleagues. You also bring knowledge of animal behavior, sound problem-solving skills, and a compassionate approach to handling animals in sometimes stressful situations. Working Conditions This role requires frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. and the ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. Work may expose you to odors, animal waste, moderate noise, and the possibility of bites, scratches, or contagious animal diseases.
