American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Progressive Care Unit position in an Ortho Neuro Surgical setting, requiring at least one year of stepdown / intermediate care experience and an active SD or compact RN license.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the Ortho Neuro Surgical (ONS) Progressive Care Unit with mixed acuity across two floorsCare for a diverse patient population including neuro, ortho, surgical, and general medical cases with telemetry monitoringUnit includes 64 beds with RN patient ratios of 1 : 4 and CNA ratios of 1 : 8Common procedures include post-operative care, neuro interventions, orthopedic trauma, wound care, and telemetryUse of Epic EMR system is strongly preferredNight shift position with 12-hour shiftsWeekend rotation required, up to 4 out of 6 weekendsFloat as needed to other adult inpatient units within scope of practice, including Med Surg, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and ObservationNo mandatory call requirementsScrub color is navy blueUnit uses a pod structure supported by RNs and nurse aides, with separate charge nurses for each floorOrientation includes 2 days department-specific and 2 unit shifts with a preceptorSupport available from phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and nurse clinicianMonthly audits require at least 90% compliance with pre / post pain scoringHoliday time-off requests must be made prior to offer; current holiday RTO not acceptedNo time off is approved during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally blackout dates each yearFirst-time travelers will be considered with required experience and Epic EMR proficiencyFree parking is provided\n \n Requirements\n
Active RN license in South Dakota or a compact stateMinimum of 1 year recent intermediate / stepdown (PCU) experience requiredBLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications requiredCompletion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursingExperience with telemetry monitoring, neuro, ortho, and surgical patient care preferredAbility to manage cardiac strips, chest tubes, trach care (excluding fresh traches), NGT tube placement, JP drains, PICC / Midline / CVL / PIV lines, wound vacs, medication administration, TPN / tube feedings, blood transfusions, and collection devicesExperience with drip titration of medications such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and beta blockers preferred (training provided as needed)Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelersMust reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility for eligibilityPermanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler\n Benefits\n
