Real Estate And Tax Specialist III

The Property Tax Division of the Land Information and Tax Services department is seeking to fill a Real Estate and Tax Specialist III position. Under limited supervision, this position will review, process, and maintain property tax records and assist clients with transactions related to payments, mail processing, and other complex property tax questions and topics.

Location and hours : This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center located at 300 South 6th Street Minneapolis, MN, 55487. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 7 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

About the position type : This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as a Real Estate and Tax Specialist III. In this position, you will :

  • Process property tax payments, daily mail, tax statements, and penalty notices.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and follow established audit and retention practices.
  • Review and determine property tax payment posting according to established policies.
  • Perform complex tax calculations and manage specialized tax programs, calculate taxes due and payoff amounts for current and delinquent taxes, manually key payment information in tax system, and reconciliation of daily work.
  • Respond to inquiries from taxpayers, attorneys, and mortgage and title companies regarding payment processing and expectations.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve questions for customers and process related items according to established procedures and expectations.

Need to have : One of the following :

  • Three or more years of clerical experience processing and maintaining fiscal and / or legal documents.
  • 33 months or more of general clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
  • A combination of education in business or another related field (3 semester credits = 1 month) and experience to equal to three years or more.
  • Nice to have :

  • Experience : Working as a Real Estate and Tax Specialist I and / or Real Estate and Tax Specialist II. Providing customer service in-person or over the telephone. Working with complex math, such as calculating interest and tax amounts. Working with general accounting and reconciliation. With Minnesota state statutes and / or real estate terminology in a work setting. Using Microsoft Office Suite products, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and meet objectives under limited supervision.
  • About the department : Land Information and Tax Services is a department within the Resident Services Line of Business of Hennepin County that covers foundational responsibilities of government : land surveying, land recording, property tax collection and distribution. We also provide critical infrastructure and innovation support to departments throughout Resident Services.
