Overview
The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is seeking Engineers-in-Training for the new Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT). These are opportunities for hard-working individuals eager to join a new department focused on improving and enhancing Nashville's transportation network. NDOT is seeking qualified engineers-in-training for multiple work assignments related to sidewalks, bikeways, traffic calming and smart city initiatives. These positions will perform entry-level professional engineering duties involving design, construction and / or inspection of municipal projects or work within the planning, installation and maintenance of equipment and control systems.
About the department
The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the places they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike / sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville include CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.
This is a position that is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and can telecommute.
Responsibilities
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
No Substitution
License and Certification
Note
Any employee appointed to this classification shall obtain such certification within six (6) months from the effective date of their appointment as an Engineer in Training.
Failure to meet the certification requirement within six (6) months shall result in automatic termination / dismissal.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note : Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078, all employees shall be residents of Tennessee or become residents within six months of employment as a prerequisite to employment.
