Description :
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs nuclear medicine procedures, PET, and theranostic procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
Performs high quality nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures (planar, SPECT, and SPECT / CT) according to exam protocol, in a timely manner.
Systematically evaluates the quality of imaging procedures and follows established standards and procedures.
Maintains equipment by performing quality control as required by imaging manufacturers, radiation materials license, or American College of Radiology.
Communicates with patients to identify service requirements, ensure correct exams are performed, and establish rapport with patients.
Instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate exams.
Explains procedures thoroughly to put patients at ease.
Protects patients and team members by adhering to safety requirements, infection control protocols, and techniques.
Prepares patients and areas for procedures by positioning patients, adjusting immobilization devices, and moving equipment into specified positions.
Follows proper aseptic techniques when performing invasive procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
Safeguards patients, team members, and themselves by adhering to all radiation safety requirements and policies.
Verifies that the correct radioactive drug has been selected for exams or treatments.
Screens patients appropriately for pregnancy status prior to the start of exams or treatments.
Safely administers radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications per protocol.
Educates patients with radiation safety techniques pre- and post-exam or treatment.
Follows radiation disposal guidelines.
Reports issues to leadership or appropriate department.
Assists in maintaining supplies inventory and ordering radiopharmaceuticals for patient care and quality control.
Works collaboratively with colleagues, nursing partners, medical staff, and radiologists.
Ensures accurate transfer of patient images to the picture archiving and communication system for clinical review.
Ability to observe changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicate changes to nursing partners and physicians.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills for appropriate care for a range of age groups.
Able to provide services timely and accurately in compliance with established regulatory standards and policies.
Able to perform tasks independently without the need for routine oversight.
Maintains a calm and helpful attitude, even under stress.
Ensures customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service.
Able to serve as a trainer by providing quality education to new team members and students.
Adheres to policies, procedures, and workflows.
Possesses general computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic medical documentation.
Able to take calls if required.
