Wastewater Biosolids Practice
The Biosolids Practice resides within the Water Business Group in the technical Wastewater Market Sector, serving municipalities and other clients across North America. HDR has ~700 wastewater market sector employees with services spanning biosolids management, solids processing, wastewater treatment, utility master planning, strategic advisory, water reuse, construction management, program management, asset management, and operations assistance.
Responsibilities
- Lead HDR's Biosolids practice through a combination of technical leadership, business development, relationship building, and direct billable work for clients on biosolids management and solids processing projects, with a focus on expanding HDR's market share and branding in North America.
- Participate in Water Business Group (WBG) strategic and tactical planning, and in the development of strategic positioning for solids processing and biosolids management across North America.
- Develop discreet biosolids business plans for local HDR offices in coordination with WBG leadership and Area Business Development Managers.
- Leverage industry contacts to expand relationships with HDR staff and clients in key locations aligned with biosolids development plans.
- Lead the development of solids processing and biosolids project experience qualifications and other marketing materials.
- Lead and participate in direct project pursuits including client relationship development, premarketing, qualifications, proposals, interview content, scopes of work, budgets, and contract negotiations.
- Support national and regional planning activities focused on expanding biosolids activity, HDR image building, and targeted project pursuit.
- Participate in regional and national biosolids committees and policy bodies, industry associations, and relevant conferences.
- Participate in WBG Practice Group on biosolids and biogas, and national committees focusing on treatment technologies and biosolids / biogas management.
- Disseminate information to HDR staff and clients on marketplace developments, policy changes, regulatory updates, emerging biosolids technologies, and opportunities to serve clients.
- Engage in national project pursuits with biosolids activities, including preparation of qualifications, technical approaches, proposals, and interviews.
- Direct billable work on wastewater biosolids consulting assignments for municipal and industrial clients.
- Conduct QA / QC reviews of biosolids management plans and solids processing projects.
- Participate on project teams in Project Manager or Project Principal roles for biosolids and solids processing work.
- Manage select biosolids projects or lead task roles on solids projects.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications : BS in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or related sciences.15+ years of technical experience with wastewater biosolids processing including thickening / dewatering, digestion, advanced stabilization, thermal hydrolysis, heat drying, beneficial end use (land application), resource recovery, and regulatory compliance.Preferred Qualifications
MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related sciencesRegistered Professional Engineer5+ years of proven experience in project management including invoicing, budget and schedule controls, and management of project staffExperience with client development responsibilities such as workshops, presentations, proposal content development, and business development strategyExperience in managing or leading process mechanical projects, including digester and biogas facilities at wastewater treatment plantsWhy HDR
