Position Summary :
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Fetal Care and Surgical Center (FCSC) provides advanced clinical management and care coordination for pregnant individuals carrying fetuses with congenital anomalies, from prenatal diagnosis through delivery and postnatal transition. The NP functions as a clinical expert and integral member of a multidisciplinary team, providing procedural, perioperative, and educational support within this highly specialized and dynamic program. The role requires strong clinical judgment, advanced procedural and coordination skills, and the ability to navigate complex maternal-fetal cases across inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative settings.
Key Responsibilities :
- Serve as the primary NP for all new fetal intervention referrals, performing comprehensive clinical intakes and triage.
- Provide and coordinate care for pregnant individuals carrying fetuses with congenital anomalies through prenatal evaluation, fetal intervention, and delivery planning.
- Conduct history and physical examinations, obstetric assessments including cervical checks, pelvic exams, rupture of membrane assessments, and postpartum evaluations.
- Facilitate diagnostic studies, interpret lab results, and prescribe medications in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine and surgical teams.
- Provide perioperative and postoperative support, including day-of-surgery assessment, intraoperative collaboration, PACU monitoring, inpatient rounding, and discharge facilitation.
- Conduct peer-to-peer reviews and draft letters of medical necessity (LOMN) for fetal intervention patients.
- Participate in and document needle-based procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and bladder taps.
- Evaluate and interpret non-stress tests (NSTs) and initiate interventions as clinically indicated.
- Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine physicians during procedural visits and progressively assume responsibility for obstetric-related examinations and procedures.
- Support and / or lead postpartum visits following fetal intervention or delivery.
- Partner with program leadership to develop, refine, and evaluate clinical workflows that optimize care delivery and patient experience.
- Provide education and mentorship through lectures, in-services, simulation, case reviews, and new team member onboarding.
Minimum Qualifications
Education :
Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited programExperience :
Minimum of 4 years of NP experience in obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, or a related perinatal specialty.Past obstetrics / labor and delivery / postpartum experience requiredExceptional written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.Licensure / Certifications :
