Serves as a subject matter expert for the patient portal, developing and running reports for quality and auditing purposes to identify system trends and offer improvements. Services as the first escalation for patient-related portal issues. Performs system testing, staff training, assists in the development of policies and procedures, and acts as a resource and liaison to all staff in problem resolution and guidance that applies to system applications related to the patient portal. Assist in advanced HIM functions to ensure Ongoing medical record review and transcription corrections as needed. Oversees system downtimes and recovery procedures for HIM departments. Creates and analyzes reports to identify trends, mitigate risk, and recommend workflow improvements—partners with Medical Records, Privacy, Compliance, and Data Governance committees to maintain data integrity.
Responsibilities
ROI Quality Assurance
Audits Release of information to ensure releases conducted timely and to authorized personnel.Monitors, reviews, and processes data entries and requests for release of information, and validates that the requests and medical records are complete, accurate, within the required timeline, and in compliance with the State and Federal guidelines.Monitors and performs various radiology film library functions upon request including calling and corresponding with patients and other department staff via in-person, telephone, email or fax.Monitors and executes the timely and accurate uploading of external CDs / DVDs and / or printing and digitizing of films upon request.Participate in ongoing coordination and resolution of revenue issues as they arise.Assist in researching coding issues, provide guidance, and recommend solutions to account representatives.Accurately monitors, reviews, and processes data entered and requests for release of information, and validates that the requests and medical records are complete, accurate, within the required timeline, and in compliance with the State and Federal guidelines.Patient Portal
Performs validation and registration for access to the patient portal, including providing tutorial instructions to navigate the patient portal software.Answers incoming phone calls, makes arrangements for release of information and birth recording requests, including in-person and remote access, and monitors access issues with the patient portal impacting patient satisfaction.Follows established parameters to ensure state and federal guidelines to assist with timely patient access to health information for continuity of care.First point of contact for issues related to the patient portal.Troubleshot issues with the patient portal and services as a liaison for IT patient portal-related issues.HIM SME
Functions as a 'superuser' for new software applications or upgrades in existing applications and assists in training of assigned team members.Provides back-up coverage as needed.Services has a liaison for all HIM related projects, to include Health Data Exchange, Patient Portal, and Cerner HIM applications.
Medical Records Review
Audits medical records for compliance with TJC and CMS Conditions of Participation.Collaborates with HIM leadership to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standardsTranscription
Monitors, verifies, faxes, sends, notifies, and corrects transcribed documents utilizing the electronic medical record, the established internal and external communications systems, directories and transcription system.Transcribes and / or edits inpatient / outpatient medical, surgical, radiological, and pathological reports at a 98% accuracy rate.Compliance / Safety
Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas / RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.If required for position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or G.E.D - Required
Associates Degree - Preferred
Certification & Licensures
Possess one of the following : Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), (CMT) Certified Medical Transcriptionist or certification from AHIMA, AAPC, AAHAM, HFMA, and NAHRI.
Experience
3 or more years of experience with Release of Information and HIM - Preferred3 years of experience in Cerner Suite EHR Patient Portal ExperienceAbility to work collaboratively across disciplines and business lines.Knowledge of Scanning FunctionsExceptional oral / written communication skills and highly customer-focused.Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.Able to communicate with many various customers.Ability to prioritize, plan and execute.Excellent critical thinking and analytical skillset ExperienceProficiency with Microsoft ExcelHealthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care.
