Goal
Work directly with students with guidance from the teacher. Provide coaching and modeling to facilitate the active involvement of students in their educational setting.
Qualifications
- Holds high school transcript or equivalency, along with one of the following :
An associate degree or higher with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from an accredited institution, or
Sixty college credits from an accredited institution, orA score of 459 or higher on the ParaPro TestHas strong communication skills; writing and speaking in EnglishHas strong communication skills in a second language; if required by assignmentHas experience working with children in varied settings; preferredHas working knowledge of behavior management procedures; preferredHas knowledge of software applications including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint; preferredHas knowledge of accommodations for special education students; preferredMust be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workdayResponsibilities
Ensure the safety of students within school and community environmentsEnsure student confidentialityUtilize knowledge of the social, emotional, medical, and academic needs of individual students obtained through collaboration with teacher and / or specialistsCollaborate with the teacher and / or related services providers about plans, and implementation of activities and resources for the studentsWork with students individually, in small groups, or in a whole group setting, as prescribed by instructional programsWork with students in a variety of content areas, which may include math, science, English, social studies, as well as any electiveIn an inclusionary environment, may work with regular education students as well as students who have IEPsAssist in ongoing monitoring of students' progress, which may include assessing, data collection and computer workCommunicate essential student information, progress, concerns to the assigned teacher, worksite coordinator, or assigned administratorSupport in maintaining discipline of students using behavior management plan as directed by classroom teacherMaintain dignity and respect for each student at all timesMay assist teacher or independently perform routine tasks such as classroom duties, record keeping, grading, preparing materials, setting up / cleaning up of activities, operating multimedia equipment, and job coaching at community-based locationsMay assist with supervision during non-instructional activities such as bus duty, breakfast / lunch, recess, student transitions, specials / electives, and field tripsMust be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workdayMust be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of studentsMust report to work on time every workdayMust perform all duties as assigned during scheduled workdaysPerform other duties as requested by administration to meet the needs of the studentsMaintain a professional attitude and appearance in all settings as required by district guidelinesUse initiative to solve problemsFollow district and building proceduresEqual Opportunity
