Must-Have :

BLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring certification are required for Labor & Delivery and Obstetrics units.

Description :

The facility can cancel one shift every other week.

An OB nurse is needed, with an average of 15-17 births per month.

The nurse will perform duties in Labor & Delivery, as well as Mother Baby, Newborn Nursery, and Couplet Care.

They will care for Gynecology surgery patients.

The nurse may float to Medical-Surgical if there are no patients.

If uncomfortable taking patients in Medical-Surgical, assistance with vitals and medication administration will be required.

The RN will handle all responsibilities within their scope for laboring patients, triage, and mother-baby care.

The LPN will assist the RN but is not able to labor or triage patients.

The LPN cannot conduct initial assessments.

However, the LPN can support the RN with EFM evaluations, turning patients, assisting with documentation, and other related tasks.

As a baby nurse, the initial assessment must be validated by the RN.

In case additional help is needed, staff can request a Transfer Coordinator for assistance.

In an emergency, the LPN typically goes to the OR with the patient to receive the baby, allowing the RN to remain on the unit for potential triage arrivals.

Being a small unit, creativity is essential, but excellent support and resources are accessible when needed.
