(MUST BE ABLE TO READ COMPLEX ENGINEERED FABRICATION BLUEPRINTS)

Specializes in assembling steel components, steel structures, and other large steel frameworks according to blueprint specifications.

• Must be able to read and interpret complex heavy steel fabrication blueprints.
• Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits together fabricated parts of structural metal products in shop, according to blueprint and layout specifications, preparatory to welding or riveting.
• Plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, and allowances for weld shrinkage, machining, and thickness of metal.

Supervision : Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor / manager.

Education : May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with 2 - 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
