FRAME is a Californian fashion brand established in 2012 by Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede.
Since inception, FRAME has embodied Californian modernity with a distinctly European influence through its renowned ready-to-wear collections and coveted denim essentials. Born and raised in Los Angeles, FRAME offers a timeless perspective on everyday chic outfitting via signature tailoring, luxury leather, and quality cashmere.
Today, FRAME is a household name across both womens and mens design, with 16 standalone retail stores across North America, two London stores, a store in Shanghai and a dedicated eCommerce website. FRAME can also be found at the most desirable department stores and boutiques worldwide.
Role Overview :
Part of the Architecture Department and reporting to the Head of Store Development, your role is to support on the design activities of the future FRAME spaces, across the global portfolio. As part of the creative environment, you are one of the actors, responsible for the image of the brand.
You come from a background in design or architecture, with formal training from a recognized school. You bring 2-3-year of experience as an In-House Designer or Conceptual Architect, gained within an architectural firm, design agency, or ideally within the retail sector for a high-end brand.
You have a strong aesthetic sensibility, particularly an appreciation for mid-century design and an appetite for architecture. You have a sharp eye for detail and a meticulous approach to your work. You are well-organized, proactive and capable of managing multiple tasks with rigor. A foundation understanding of building materials and construction standards in essential. You are eager to grow within a dynamic company environment and thrive as part of collaborative, team-oriented culture. You are highly proficient in 3D modeling using Rhinoceros and capable of producing high-quality renderings with tools such as V-ray or Enscape. You can develop complete 2D tender drawing sets using Rhinoceros and / or AutoCAD. You have solid command of the Adobe Creative Suite (Ai, Id, Ps, Acrobat) and Microsoft Suite.
You will be reporting to the Head of Store Development and under the supervision of the Global CEO; working alongside other team-members, internal departments (VM, Retail etc.) and sometimes external parties. You will be participating in project presentations with the CEO, the Co-Founder and the Regional CEOs.
This job has a divided scope as follow : 80% of your workload is dedicated to design; the remaining 20% on design coordination and sourcing.
Responsibilities : Design
In collaboration with fellow team-members, you play a leading role throughout the various design phases of FRAME projects including Research, Concept Design and Design Development (Stage 1, 2 and 3). Retail projects are categorized as Flagship, Tier B and Tier C; while wholesale projects are classified as Tier A, B and C. You may also contribute to special projects such as brand pop-ups, offices spaces and more -whether they involve new builds, relocations or refurbishments. Once the design is approved by all stakeholders, and the tender drawing set finalized, the project is handed over to the assigned project manager for the execution phases.
- Conduct targeted design research based on the selected locations, identify relevant inspirations, and develop mood boards to support the creation of unique and contextually appropriate designs. Produce hand sketches, layouts and any other visual materials needed to help establish a strong and well-grounded design foundation. [Stage 1]
- Collaborate with Visual Merchandising and local Retail teams to define the optimal customer journey, determine the appropriate number of SKUs, and design efficient back-of-house areas such as storage, staff rooms etc.
- Work closely with any potential external partners or artists engaged in the design process.
- Develop 3D models and deliver high-quality renderings of design proposals, supported by detailed and visually engaging floor plans. This stage often involves multiple iterations; patience, adaptability and a collaborative mindset are essential. [Stage 2]
- Collaborate with the Architect of Record or specific coordinators (if any assigned to the project) to ensure the design complies with local building codes and ADA regulations.
- Prepare a comprehensive and precise set of drawings that includes all architectural elements such as technical floor plans, RCP and MEP intents, and sufficient elevations and sections to fully convey the design. This drawing set serves as the foundation for the General Contractor tender process. [Stage 3]
- Prepare a detailed and accurate set of drawings covering all millwork and furniture elements including plans, axonometric views, sections and details. This drawing set forms the basis for the Millwork tender process. [Stage 3]
- Team-up with the lighting designer to develop an optimal lighting layout that enhances and illuminates the space effectively.
Design Coordination
You will be expected to handle several projects concurrently across different phases. Additionally, you will take on design coordination responsibilities to support the tasks of the assigned Project Manager. Not limited to, you will :Source imagery or physical material samples featured in the concept (wood specie, metal finishes, textures, paint finishes etc.). Provide a comprehensive material schedule containing all necessary details to assist the Project Manager in coordinating with various vendors and suppliers.Compile a master document listing all desired equipment and installations, enabling the Project Managers to effectively communicate specifications with suppliers (e.g. specific power outlet references, etc.).Source the projects FF&E and artwork, and provide a detailed inventory for the Project Manager to purchase.Other Missions (not limited to)
Contribute to building a 2D / 3D library to improve project efficiency and streamline the design process.Support the development of a material library by actively researching materials and exploring innovative solutions.Assist the Visual Merchandising and regional offices in sourcing furniture and artwork tailored to the specific needs, themes and spatial constraints of upcoming pop-up or events.Skills & Qualifications :
Background in design, interior Design or architecture schoolExperience of 2-3 years on a similar roleFluency in English (speaking and writing) - another language is a plus.Highly efficient on the 3D software Rhinoceros, V-Ray / Enscape; 2D programs like AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.Physical Requirements
