RADIATION THERAPIST

Job Summary

Provides therapeutic and patient care services for the purpose of delivering radiation therapy as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist.

Job Responsibilities

• Delivers patient treatment plan in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist / physicist.
• Evaluates patients for appropriate response to treatment and reports any adverse reactions.
• Positions patients and selects anatomic / technical parameters accurately; maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and treatment techniques while utilizing radiation protection procedures.
• Reviews patient charts for completeness and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Verifies completion of prescription, appropriate signatures, and patient consents.
• Responsible for effective and safe operation of equipment in the Linac treatment room. This includes the Linear accelerator, OBI, portal imager, Protura couch, and HDR unit.
• Fabricates individualized immobilization, custom blocks, and other beam-modifying devices.
• Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team.
