Advanced Practice Provider (NP / PA) - Joints Access

Position Description :

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Divison of Total Joints, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW / FMLH / CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at our Springdale and Mequon Clinics.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in the Orthopaedic Surgery Total Joint Program. Provides outpatient care as well as assistants in the OR and attends In-patient rounding as required.

In this role you will be responsible for the following :

Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team as needed in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with orthopaedic health conditions.

Documents accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and admission and transfer orders.

Order, perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests and appropriately communicate and document information.

Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including CMS, and the Joint Commission.

Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients being treated in the Total Joint Program through participation in the development of quality indicators.

Acquires information and best practices on the most current development and trends in the NP / PA field through educational programs, in-services, conferences, literature and professional associations.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities :

Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.

Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.

Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.

Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.

Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.

Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.

Collaborates and / or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Work Schedule : 1.0 FTE role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.
