CITY OF MENTOR NATURAL RESOURCES ASSISTANT The City of Mentor is seeking a Natural Resource Assistant to support the division with the deer management program. Responsibilities for this position include working outdoors at locations throughout the city, often in inclement weather and cold weather; seasonal employees will be responsible for collecting and maintaining data throughout the duration of the deer program, as well as completing other harvest activities, including tagging and ageing deer and transporting harvested animals. The preferred candidate will have experience in the identification, banding, and handling of migratory birds to assist with spring migration banding a well as experience in the set-up of mist-nets and show proficiency in the safe extraction of birds. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of native and non-native herbaceous and woody plant species. Other duties include using tools and equipment to remove invasive plant species, spraying of herbicides, educational programming, and avian monitoring. Must be comfortable using chainsaws, brush cutters, handsaws, hand tools. Completed degree preferred or currently enrolled student in wildlife management, natural resources, ecology, biology or a related field. Must be physically able to lift and carry at least 40 lbs.; must be able to walk up to 6 miles a day in wet terrain. Must be available to work some nights / weekends, have a valid drivers license and have experience driving four-wheel drive trucks and utility vehicles.
