Security Monitor - Magnolia Gardens
Founded in 1980, Urban Resource Institute (URI) is the nation's largest provider of domestic violence shelter services and a leader in supporting homeless families. Operating 24 shelters across New York City, URI provides 3,700 beds nightly in purpose-built shelters that offer trauma-informed services including counseling, childcare, case management, and more. URI's Justice Initiatives extend support beyond shelter, offering programs in economic empowerment, legal advocacy, youth prevention, and abusive partner intervention. URI also develops permanent affordable housing as part of its long-term commitment to safety, stability, and healing.
The Security Monitor provides overall facility monitoring and surveillance through regular facility rounds, maintains log of people entering and exiting the facility. Conducts fire drills and maintains logbooks on fire drills and emergency apparatus. The security staff also documents accounts of residents' non-compliance of curfews, and other rules and regulations.
Salary : $34,307
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain logs of visitors entering and exiting the premises and record all unusual incidents based on established procedures, while ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors enter the property.
- Surveillance of the grounds, facility and activities of the residents to prevent theft and resident harm.
- Ensure that all doors from the facility are locked and secured.
- Monitor fire and safety procedures.
- Provide administrative support in office coverage, telephone and clerical work.
- Perform light maintenance responsibilities in the absence of maintenance staff.
- Function independently in terms of facility coverage including responsibility for appropriate action in crisis situations per agency procedures.
- Meet with Security Supervisor for individual and group supervision and training.
- Assist with delivery of supplies and furniture.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings and training seminars conducted to enhance and develop skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Specifications for Education / Certifications / Licenses
High School Diploma or GED required.Valid NY State Registration as a Security Guard.Required Skills and Experience
Three (3) years experience as a security monitor.Minimum of 1 years experience working in a 24-hour residential facility.Bi-lingual, Mandarin or Spanish preferred.Able to work with minimum supervision and as a team player.Demonstrated understanding of the issues of homeless families.Must have ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.Excellent written and verbal skills are required.Must be computer literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.Specifications for Physical Requirements
