Senior Dam Safety Engineer
Southern California Edison (SCE) invites you to join our Dam Safety Team to protect the Company and the Public by ensuring the safety of SCE's dams. You will provide field and construction support for dam safety maintenance, capital projects, and regulatory compliance.
Key Focus of Role
- Field Inspections / Construction Support – perform inspections and support for dams and appurtenant structures to ensure Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) compliance.
- Dam Safety Reports and Briefings – prepare regulatory reports and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintenance Strategies – develop, implement, and lead maintenance strategies for individual dams, evaluate instrumentation data, and recommend thresholds.
- Dam Safety Subject Matter Expert – act as a subject matter expert on FERC and DSOD regulations.
- Dam Safety Training – provide training to engineers, civil crew members, operators, and managers.
Responsibilities
Oversee engineers performing diagnostics, monitoring, and inspecting equipment and reviewing grid technologies.Lead preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate project status and findings.Collaborate and lead cross-functional teams to ensure seamless development and implementation of future technologies and asset performance management strategies.Assist in engineering and business initiatives, including development of innovative procedures and design recommendations.Provide support for new equipment installation and startup, then lead hand-over processes to the ramp and sustaining phases.Lead junior engineers in investigation of threats on the distribution system infrastructure based on observations and findings.Gather and correlate basic data using engineering studies and procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems.Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for engineering team members.Ensure protection of company assets, data privacy, and adherence to conduct and integrity standards.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific / technical / math field.Seven or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.Valid Class C Driver's License.Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of experience with Dams and / or Hydropower projects.Experience with FERC and DSOD dam safety and inspection regulations.Experience with applicable civil engineering codes, standards, and best practices.Experience and ability to independently review and validate design calculations, drawings, specifications, and work plans for civil construction projects.Experience and knowledge of dam safety engineering best practices.Professional Engineering License.Additional Information
This position's work mode is hybrid. Remote work days are available with on-site presence required at the SCE facility and field location.Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and California Fair Chance Act.Primary work locations are Big Creek, CA, or Rosemead, CA, with potential field travel (up to 50%).Candidiate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation and complete required training.Option for a 4 / 10 Alternate Work Schedule (40 hrs / 4 days).Relocation may apply.About Southern California Edison
