Director of Special Education

Job Summary

Position Summary :

The Director of Special Education will lead and manage all special education services within the district to ensure equitable access to a high-quality education for students with disabilities. This includes oversight of instructional programs, compliance with state and federal regulations, supervision of special education staff, and the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The Director will also coordinate and supervise the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) framework to ensure effective academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports for all students. The Director promotes inclusive practices, supports school-based teams, and ensures continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications :

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Professional leadership certificate issued by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date
• At least five years of successful teaching and / or leadership experience in special education, administration, or related areas
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws related to student discipline, attendance, and equity (e.g., Title IX, IDEA, ADA, compulsory attendance laws)
• Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date
