POSITION SUMMARY
The Public Works Laborer "C" position performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work. Operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of Township roads, sewer, storm drainage facilities and systems as well as Township buildings, facilities, parks, & open space maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will be responsible for these major duties :
- Inspects and / or repairs roads, streets, drainage systems, sewer systems, including sewage pumping stations, all park equipment and facilities, buildings, and open space at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects are functioning properly.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by checking equipment and tools after use.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, road repair material, road plowing and salting, etc.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor, cleans equipment.
- Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance on projects as part of a crew, involving Township roads, storm and sanitary sewer systems, buildings, facilities, and parks including pavement cutting, ditch digging, pump station cleaning, storm sewer cleaning & repair, laying and backfilling.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the repair, cleaning, and maintenance of roads, streets, sewer systems, storm drainage facilities, systems, buildings, parks, & open space.
- Must be available for after-hours call in for inclement weather events.
- Manage compost site.
- Other assigned duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES
Education :
High school diploma or GED.Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations :
Valid PA Driver's license, with Commercial Driver's License, Class "B" certification.Experience :
Minimum of 6 months of experience in performing labor, maintenance, and / or construction work preferred.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.Ability to work safely.Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other departments, and the public.Ability to work in inclement weather which will result in exposure to extreme heat and cold.Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.Ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, plow and salt truck, utility truck, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, mowers, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, and phone.Ability to respond to Township building within 30 minutes for after-hours emergencies and weather events.WORKING CONDITIONS
