The Role

Program Dates : May 29 - August 7, 2026.

Location : This position is fully remote / work from home in the continental US.

Work Authorization : US Work Authorization required for this role.

Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate's commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made

As a Data Enablement Intern, you'll support the implementation of Lumen's AI governance strategy in alignment with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF). You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate AI systems, refine governance policies, and translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into actionable data practices.

The Main Responsibilities

Assist in evaluating AI systems for fairness, transparency, and accountability

Support the drafting and refinement of AI governance policies, standards, and procedures

Translate legislative and regulatory requirements into operational guidelines

Collaborate with data privacy and security teams to ensure compliance with internal and external standards

Contribute to the implementation of AI governance strategies aligned with NIST AI RMF

Participate in cross-functional discussions to promote responsible data practices across the organization

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required qualifications

Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.

Graduating August 2026 - May 2028

Preferred fields include but not limited to : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Public Policy, Data Science, Law, Ethics, or a related field

Proficiency and understanding of :

Strong interest in AI ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks

Excellent communication and analytical skills

Familiarity with AI / ML concepts, MLOps, or LLMOps is a plus

Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn

Compensation

Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual's level of education, geographic location, and experience / qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range :

Min : $ 31 / hour

Max : $ 46 / hour
