Develops and maintains effective relationships with schools, community groups, agencies and non-profits that target youth to plan and deliver programs and services that meet the needs and interests of area families.Provides tours of the library and instruction on library use and digital resources.Plans, presents, and evaluates youth programs that promote literacy and learning, skill development, and connection, including storytimes, class visits to the library, and outreach visits to the community.Collaborates with other youth librarians to develop vision and goals for youth services work group.Develops publicity for youth services events and information, including print flyers, website content, newsletter articles and social media.Provides prompt, courteous and direct assistance to patrons regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services.Provides exemplary reader's advisory and reference service to youth, ages birth - 18 and their caregivers.Participates in collection development and management of Children's and Teens collections.Provides library oversight during absence of library management.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, library customers, and community partnersTrains volunteers and other staff as assigned; may oversee work of others.Responds to customer comments and concerns.Interprets, explains and upholds library policies and procedures.Perform related duties as required.Qualifications
Education and / or Experience :
A Master's Degree in Library Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution and two years library experience in a paraprofessional or professional capacity. Experience working with children or teens preferred.
Trainee minimum qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree and one-year library experience in a paraprofessional or professional capacity and a commitment to completion of a Master's Degree in Library Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution within two years may be considered for an interim trainee position.

Most work is performed in a library environment, and some in community settings.Must be able to lift, carry, and / or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 pounds.Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time.Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include :
