THE ROLE

The role of the Senior Accountant in the Accounting and Tax group is to assist with preparing financial information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and internal accounting policies, to provide tax support and manage relationships with external tax partners, and to provide strong business partnership to other internal departments.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The preferred candidate has a minimum 3 years’ experience in the following areas :

  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Financial Accounting or auditing (public accounting firm experience is an advantage)
  • Financial statement creation, financial close and reporting, corporate tax preparation and fixed assets
  • Software : Oracle Financials (preferred), SAP, JD Edwards or other enterprise accounting system, ADP
  • Strong PC skills-specifically Microsoft Excel (advanced to expert), Microsoft Word, Outlook & Adobe Acrobat

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Direct communication with senior and / or executive management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • EDUCATION

    The candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA license preferred, but not required.

    THE POSITION

    The Senior Accountant’s position is responsible for the following results :

  • Assisting in the management of the financial accounting, including :
  • Serving as a business partner to the Director of Accounting and Tax, other department managers and external business partners, including the company auditors

  • Month-end closing, including various journal entries
  • Accounting for international subsidiaries
  • Accounting for fixed assets
  • Maintaining monthly accruals and amortization of prepaid accounts
  • Year-end closing including account reconciliations
  • Managing chart of accounts
  • Monthly intercompany invoicing
  • Reconciliation of intercompany accounts
  • Currency revaluations for multiple foreign currencies
  • Tax Preparation assistance
  • Prepare federal, international and state tax workpapers to provide to tax preparer

  • File monthly GST Tax returns for Canada
  • Other various tax filings
  • Ensure tax deadlines are met
  • Support an environment of internal controls that provides structure and integrity to the company’s accounting processes
  • Maintaining current knowledge about the activities of the organization, and the impact of operational decisions on the company’s financial performance
  • Supporting the Company’s long-term financial planning cycle
  • Share ideas for process improvements that can improve departmental flexibility and reduce administrative costs
  • Contributing to a team effort by accomplishing related results or projects as needed
  • Assisting associates with various accounting issues, questions, and reporting as well as enforcing company policies and procedures
  • Ability to work schedule as needed to complete time sensitive tasks
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a positive and curious mentality and a desire to take ownership of tasks
  • THE DEPARTMENT

    The Finance department is overseen by the Chief Financial Officer. Our mission is to both protect and grow the business. The department consists of three groups : (1) Treasury (including Revenue Accounting and Payroll), (2) Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (including Cost Accounting and Budgeting) and (3) Accounting and Tax (including Financial Accounting, Tax, Accounts Payable, and Oracle Financial System Support). The group is responsible for providing strategic insight and supporting our strategic imperatives through several critical processes including the monthly, quarterly, and annual publishing of financial results, preparing travel agent commissions, processing vendor invoices, credit card processing, tax compliance, treasury, cost accounting, completing operational transactions, and financial analysis.
