Assessment Specialist

The Assessment Specialist assists the public in person and on the phone, answers questions and solves problems regarding property assessments. Uses computer and specialized software to enter and retrieve data, search databases, conduct research, create documents, and send emails regarding assessment information and processes. Interacts with other County departments and outside agencies to obtain and provide assessment information. Learn the Assessor's Office property mass appraisal practices, statutory timelines and procedures, property valuation, ownership transfers and record management.

Specialists will start by learning three or four essential functions and will continue to cross-train and develop to learn all functions after several years.

Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8 : 00AM to 5 : 00PM

Qualifications :

• High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by continuing education in secretarial science, business or a job-related field.
• An associate's degree in business or a job-related field or, any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities is preferred.
• Two years of clerical experience along with the interpersonal skills needed to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff in order to give and extricate information in a courteous and friendly manner. It is acceptable to substitute any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Knowledge of related computer software, including word processing and spreadsheets, grammar, spelling and punctuation, along with general office equipment, (copier, facsimile machine, calculator, postage machine, scales) and office procedures and practices.
• Capability to perform numerical calculations; verify information from complex forms and transfer to easy-to-read reports.
• Three or more years of clerical experience along with the interpersonal skills needed to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff to give and extricate information in a courteous and friendly manner is preferred.
