Academic Program Specialist (Open)
Coordinates the daily operations of the English Department. Assists in the development and support of programs and initiatives. Assists with marketing materials, student recruitment, student course and program planning, budget, program assessment, and department data and reports. Provides administrative support for faculty and students in the English academic undergraduate B.A. programs and the graduate M.A. programs, while assisting the department chair in managing administration of the department, including scheduling, budgeting, contracts, advising and co-curricular programming. In addition, serves as the liaison to and communicates with other university offices, departments, students, community organizations, and other agencies.
Position reports to directly to Department Chair, has responsibility over budget planning and contracts. Supervises student worker if one is employed by department. Supports graduate program and works with Graduate Program Director as required.
Bachelor's Degree. English or Humanities, with a minimum of one year experience in administrative staff work preferred, or associate's degree in a related field and three years administrative staff work. Demonstrated computer skills with competency in PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to present ideas and information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; to perform mathematical computations; ability to work with multiple budgets. Must be detail-oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem-solving, follow through, time management, creative and analytical thinking. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion; flexibly and successfully handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously; work well under pressure; and work independently or in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to produce documents and maintain information, including online course schedules, budgets, and assessment documents. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate student workers. Ability to work with multiple stakeholders on-campus (faculty, staff, students, international education, bursar, registrar, general counsel, academic advising, etc.) and off campus.
One year of experience in administrative staff work. Understanding of undergraduate and graduate English programs and disciplines a plus but not required.
The position is a full-time, part-time, exempt, non-exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
